Home Knife Care Diary

Knife care without the expert jargon.

Blade Nest is a simple home diary for knives, sharpening, honing, service notes and short follow-up reviews after real kitchen use. It helps a home cook remember which knives need attention and which care methods are worth repeating.

ModeFully offlineNo accounts, cloud sync, server analytics or external knowledge bases.
NavigationFive tabsToday, History, Knives, Insights and Settings.
StorageLocal diaryUserDefaults, Codable and local image storage in Application Support.
StyleBlueprint matchSteel, copper and pale blueprint tones matching the privacy policy page.

A field guide for ordinary kitchen upkeep.

This page avoids app-screen mockups. Instead, it explains the product as a practical home workflow: choose a knife, record service, cook for a few days, then add a follow-up.

Follow-up loop

The key idea is not the service date. It is what happens after cooking.

Blade Nest separates the immediate sharpness rating from the follow-up rating after daily use. This keeps the diary grounded in home kitchen experience, not theoretical sharpening advice.

It can show whether a knife dulled quickly, stayed comfortable, worked well for vegetables, or should be serviced differently next time.

KnifeProfileName, type, main use, favorite state, photos and reminder preference.
CareEntryService method, date, immediate sharpness score, notes and photos.
FollowUpReviewSharpness after use, comfort, fast dulling and task feedback.
UsageNoteQuick dinner notes such as vegetables, bread, meat, fruit or general cooking.

The app is organized around five everyday areas.

The product is a native SwiftUI TabView, but the landing keeps it textual and structural rather than showing fake screens.

Local-first systems, with a calm kitchen-safe tone.

Blade Nest is not a professional sharpening course. It is a personal maintenance journal, with no aggressive visual language and no external services.

Built for the kitchen drawer, not a specialist workshop.

The app asks simple questions: which knife, how it was cared for, how sharp it felt right away, and how it performed after actual use. That is enough to build useful personal history over time.
